My Inspiration
My inspiration comes from my deep fascination with the Phi Ta Khon Festival, a vibrant and spiritual celebration in Thai culture. One of our Art Toys already features an interpretation of Phi Ta Khon designed by Yannick, and within the festival's procession, the presence of the Phran Boon (Spirit Hunter) mask is always significant.
I&rsquo;ve long been captivated by the Phran Boon mask. Beyond its mysterious and powerful appearance, its materials&mdash;ranging from fabric to cowhide or buffalo hide&mdash;carry rich meanings rooted in Thai beliefs and folklore.
I wanted to create my own version of Phran Boon, wearing a sacred mask that embodies Thai cultural identity, spiritual protection, and ancient rituals. This piece becomes part of the Mystic Guardians Collection, which also includes &ldquo;Candiger.&rdquo;
And from that vision, Methamas (Phran Boon) was born&mdash;my tribute to the guardian spirits of Thai tradition.

Methamas - The Sacred Path Opener
Phran Boon is regarded as the sacred path opener&mdash;a figure who bridges the human world and the spiritual realm, one who comes first to remove obstacles and guide goodness into the community.
The Phran Boon mask is therefore far more than a costume. It is a powerful symbol of sanctity, ancestral wisdom, and the profound belief system of the Isan people in Northeastern Thailand.

<h3>❖ Who is Phran Boon?</h3>
Phran Boon is a spiritual figure often portrayed as a hermit or forest sage, originating from Thai folklore and the Vessantara Jataka&mdash;a tale about the final life of the Buddha before enlightenment. He is known as the one who summons spiritsand leads divine beings and the Vessantara family back to the kingdom. Phran Boon thus acts as a spiritual guide and ceremonial leader, connecting the realms of humans and spirits.
He plays a vital role in the Bun Phra Wet Festival (Bun Mahachat) and holds a significant place in the famed Phi Ta Khon Festival, especially in Loei province.

The Phran Boon mask is worn during the Phi Ta Khon parade by those embodying this sacred character. It is traditionally crafted to portray wisdom, age, and mysticism, often with features that reflect a sage or ascetic, distinguishing it from other Phi Ta Khon masks, which are typically more playful or ghostlike.

🔸 Summoning Spirits &amp; Opening the Ritual Phran Boon leads the ritual procession by calling upon the spirits of Vessantara and celestial beings. His role marks the ceremonial beginning of the sacred event.
🔸 Dispelling Evil He is believed to possess the power to ward off bad luck, negative energies, and malevolent spirits, thus protecting the community.

🔸 Bringing Prosperity &amp; Blessings As his name suggests ("Boon" means merit), Phran Boon symbolizes abundance, virtue, and spiritual fulfillment&mdash;a harbinger of auspiciousness and collective well-being.
